| About Wildlife Sightings |
|
Welcome to Wildlife Sightings. The idea for this website started as far back as April 2000 while visiting the Kruger Park. Well rather late than never, here it is.
About myself (Japie Bronkhorst). I have an absolute passion for our fantastic Wildlife and Game Parks. I was lucky enough to win the 3rd prize overall in 2003 Veldfocus Competition on television program 50/50. It was for a video taken in the Kruger Park on the tar road between Satara and Olifants – Interaction between a Hyena Cub and Warthog. Like I did, please share what you’ve seen…
Through these pages you will be able to track all Wildlife Sightings recorded by visitors to the different Parks and Game Reserves in Africa. When visiting various parks we have noticed that everybody always heads for the area where the Parks map indicates the latest sightings for the day. This website is an "enhancement" of that service. The idea is not to take the fun out of your game drive but to give you guidance and information as to where what was seen and can be seen. From the recorded sightings you would be able to determine which roads would give you the best possible chance for excellent game viewing. You will be able to plan your safari or next game drive accordingly. You can also record your sightings on this website after you return from your visit to a Park. Click here for a form that you can use to record all your sightings while in the Park. You might just be the one that has shared the last sighting of some of our endangered animals or birds.
The Parks currently covered are Kruger National Park, Addo Elephant Park, Etosha, Pilanesberg, Kgalagadi, Marakele, Mapungubwe, Marloth Park and Sabiepark. Other parks will be added shortly. You are now given the opportunity to submit your own Wildlife Sightings. Internet Café’s are now available in some camps. Share your sightings now with others on this website. You can also send us a MMS with the sighting info and we will add it to the website for you. For the workaholic’s out there that travel with their office you can now with modern technology use your wireless internet access and Laptop in the Park to share your latest sightings with others. All roads, waterholes, dams, hides, lookout points, wilderness trails, etc. are covered. You can add more value to your sightings by adding the GPS co-ordinates. You can also add some other interesting information that will add even more value to your sighting. The most wanted and interesting animals and birds are covered. More can be added if it is not on the list. Please send us an email if we have missed out on an important place/activity in the Park including trails, 4x4 routes, hides, Camps, waterholes, animals, birds, etc.
Are you tired of looking for that evasive leopard? How does it work? You can track animals and birds, you can search different places (including trails, 4x4 routes, hides, Camps, roads). The following applies for roads: S100 - will be a sighting seen on that road, S100 Nsasane – will be a sighting at the waterhole on the road marked S100. Use the option “Sighting Search” to search for a specific animal, bird or place. Kruger Park covers a very large area, please use the interactive map for Kruger Park under the links section to navigate your way.
Before you record any sightings you have to register (joining is easy, fast and free of charge), please take a few minutes and read through the Terms and Conditions. Tour operators are more than welcome to use their Tour Operator's name when they join.
Please participate, record your Wildlife Sightings and provide us with your comments and constructive suggestions for improvement. (Contact us)
Please send us your MMS photos, digital photos and short video clips for the gallery.
Exiting new developments will follow soon on this website. More about that soon…
